IKEA Place

IKEA Place is an augmented reality application that allows you to try out virtual furnitures in your home. IKEA came to frog to create a first demo app showcasing the new Apple’s ARKit at the WWDC in June 2017. I went to the Apple Campus in Cupertino with two other frog developers to build the very first working prototype of the IKEA AR experience.

Concept, prototyping, and handover

Launch of the app
September 2017

I worked together with the IKEA team to frame and scope the demo app, then designed a concept that fit their long-term vision. I set up basic ergonomics rules and design patterns. While developers were busy understanding the core of ARKit, I implemented in Unity the interactions, animations and interface elements.

In three weeks, we built a fully functional prototype allowing users to place furniture and get inspiring content. I was in charge of the overall user experience, UI and interaction model.
